If you have one pound coin are you rich? No.

If you have 5 million coins, are you rich? Yes.

If you agree with this then it stands to reason that, at some point along this continuum, one pound makes the difference at the point of becoming rich. And so it is with habits.

Small differences, repeated, grow into life-altering outcomes.

This is the crux of James Clear’s excellent Atomic Habits. Packed with anecdotes, simple tools, and practical applications, he explores deeply the notion of self-discipline applied to creating new habits and stopping ones we would like to leave behind.

In our coaching and facilitation sessions we regularly discuss Time Management and the key skills involved: analysis, planning, delegation and self-discipline. These stories and frameworks are a great addition to take self-discipline to the next level.

4 Simple Laws of Habit Formation

The book is structured around the 4 simple laws of developing and maintaining a new habit: make it obvious, attractive, easy and satisfying.

We also espouse notions of Mastery and I like his definition – the process of narrowing your focus to a tiny element of success, repeating it until you have internalised the skill and then using this new habit as the foundation to the next frontier of your development.

If you’re looking for some inspiration and practical guidance on bringing a greater level of self-discipline into your mindset, this is a book for you.

I’m really looking forward to James Clear’s session at this years Business Excellence Forum and Awards. Come and join us?  see further details via the button below:
