In case you are wondering what the the strategies are, I’ll get straight to the summary:
- Unleashing the power of goals
- Seeking knowledge
- Learning the miracle of personal development
- Controlling your finances
- Mastering time
- Surrounding yourself with winners
- Learning the art of living well
Jim Rohn built a very successful presentation business along the theme of personal development and “Adventures in Achievement”. Although this book was published in 1985 and Jim Rohn died in 2009, his legendary status as an inspirational business philosopher lives on in many minds and organisations, including ActionCOACH. For me the most valuable elements explore the linkage between personal and business goals, and some of the key elements of optimising the management of time.
What I found less valuable were the frequent references to the Bible as a source of universal truth, and to the notion of discipline being the source of excitement. I can relate to striving for discipline as a route to your goals, but linking discipline to excitement is too much of a stretch for me.
Some people may also find the writing style “too American” but there is no doubting that this is an influential reference for many of today’s practices in business performance and self development. And it’s less than 160 pages long, so “ENJOY”!
